#MeetYourTPD: Officer Russell Grunden, Field Operations
After graduating from Bellevue High School, Officer Russell Grunden joined the Army serving as an Airborne Infantryman. When his time in the military was complete, he became a union bricklayer specializing in refractory. He worked in refineries locally and across the region.
While doing that work, he missed the camaraderie of the military and focused on getting a job with the Toledo Police Department.
As he started the hiring process, Officer Grunden realized he had one shot to fulfill the mission as he was nearing the department’s age limit. Making it through each step allowed him to breathe a little easier. He was hired by the department in 2020.
“Never give up on your dreams, no matter your age,” he said.Officer Grunden works in field operations out of the Central District. He recently earned his EMT certification and is a member of the department's tactical medic team.
In his time off, Officer Grunden likes to barbeque, smoke brisket, spend time with his family, and weight lift.If you see Officer Grunden out and about, make sure you say hello.
