City of Toledo issued the following announcement on Feb 14.

Members of Kid Council to Be Announced and Attend Council Meeting

Mayor Kapszukiewicz and members of Toledo City Council will be joined by Kid Mayor and Kid Council Members to officially launch their one-year term on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 3:30PM on the 22nd Floor of One Government Center.

After the Announcement, the Kids will attend their first Toledo City Council Meeting and enjoy a meal together while learning the basics of City of Toledo operations.

Quarterly for the remainder of the year, the kids will have the opportunity to visit and learn about the Water Treatment Plant, Engage Toledo, Toledo Police & Fire and community partners like Toledo Mud Hens. At the end of their one-year term, Kid Mayor and Kid Council will make a policy or law recommendation to the Mayor and City Council.

Hundreds of fourth graders from Toledo Public and Washington Local Schools applied to be a member of Kid Council. The top 13 candidates were selected by their schools and then interviewed by a panel of community leaders to choose the Kid Mayor.

This program is being presented in partnership with Toledo Public and Washington Local Schools, the City of Toledo and the Youth Empowerment and Engagement Committee of the Human Relations Commission.
