State Representative Josh Williams has announced the passage of House Bill 131 by the Ohio House of Representatives. This bipartisan legislation seeks to prohibit law enforcement agencies from implementing quotas for arrests and citations.

The bill's objective is to prioritize the quality of police work over the quantity of tickets issued, fostering positive relationships between community members and law enforcement officers. Currently, it is legal for officers to be required to issue a specific number of tickets daily.

"House Bill 131 is an example of common-sense, effective legislation," said Williams. "We have deep trust in our law enforcement officers and departments; they effectively provide the safety and security our state needs every day. Quotas end up only increasing the pressures and burdens placed upon officers and distracting them from their primary objective of protecting and serving the public."

The bill has garnered support from both the law enforcement community and civil justice reform advocates.

House Bill 131 now awaits consideration by the Ohio Senate.
