Sidewalk Snow Removal - A Friendly Reminder for City Residents & Businesse

Snow

City of Sylvania issued the following announcement on Jan 14.

Sidewalk Snow Removal - A Friendly Reminder for City Residents & Businesses:

All sidewalks and shared paths within the City limits are to be cleared by 10:00 am of the day following a snow and ice event (Codified Ordinance 521.09).  Snow, Ice, and debris shall not be placed in the street, gutter, or sidewalks.

Sidewalks at street crossings can be plowed closed by plowing operations during snow events, preventing access to those sidewalk areas.  We encourage all citizens and businesses to continue to monitor and clean these sidewalks to allow safe traverse during these events.

Once City crews have cleared the streets, do not blow or push snow from your driveway or sidewalk into the street.   Passing motorists drive over the fresh snow, pack it down, and create a slippery patch as a possible driving hazard.

Refer to the City website at www.cityofsylvania.com to access the City Ordinance 521.09

If such sidewalks/paths are not cleared within the permitted time, the City may cause such snow, ice, or debris removal and charge the costs to the property owner as well as possible fines.

To report uncleared sidewalks, contact the City of Sylvania Zoning Office at 419-885-8948.
