Do you know what SWATTING is? Swatting is the criminal act of deceiving people into sending police to a fake crisis.
Callers LIE and say an emergency is happening in a school (or other place) that is not really happening. This creates chaos, anxiety and fear for NO reason, and it’s a FELONY in Ohio. Often, principals and secretaries are the ones who receive that phone call in a school, so today they spent time being trained by Toledo Police Department on what to do if they receive a call like this. Staff learned specific strategies to keep a caller on the phone, (gathering important details) while still alerting security immediately for safety.
When it comes to emergency preparedness and safety, WLS has always believed in being proactive, preparing BEFORE a plan is needed.
